03 | COURSE DESCRIPTION.
+ When designers focus too heavily on rows of 昀氀uorescent
lamp 昀椀xtures to light spaces, then they often end up with
over-illuminated spaces without the necessary controls
to achieve visual comfort while ignoring healthier,
sustainable natural light.
+ This session will serve as an entry-level introduction to
lighting and its role in the built environment. It will also
address common issues that arise from poor lighting
design, and offer both development and retro昀椀t solutions
to designers to aid them in managing light levels.
04 | LEARNING OBJECTIVES.
+ Be able to read and understand luminous intensity
graphs, so as to properly locate arti昀椀cial light sources.
+ Be able to achieve proper lumen levels in spaces,
depending on their use.
+ Be able to avoid the negative impacts of over-illumination
when designing spaces.
+ Be able to properly apply various automatic and manual
control systems to incoming natural light to achieve a safe
and happy result.
